Hosea 5:10 (NKJV) – “The princes of Judah are like those who remove a landmark; I will pour out My wrath on them like water.
Proverbs 22:28 (NJKV)- Do not remove the ancient landmark which your fathers have set.
We all despise land grabbers.
In fact there is one politician here in Panay who is infamously known as a land grabber. Each time, when we interacted with the farmers in his municipality, we would hear them complain against him. Many of his famous resorts in that municipality are built upon lands or landmarks that have been stealthily robbed from poor and gullible landowners and farmers.
The Bible in our Key text, Hosea, also records land grabbers – a group of princes from Judah whom God indicted in Hosea 5. Hosea 5 is written with King Ahaz (king of Judah) as the background (2 Kings 16). Ahaz wasn’t a good king as he did not do what was right in the eyes of God. When Rezin, the King of Syria joined forces with Pekah, King of Israel to wage war on Jerusalem, Ahaz enlisted King of Assyria, Tiglath-pileser to help. Together, they defeated the King of Syria and the King of Israel. In the midst of the counter-attack against the invasion of the Syrian King, Judah greedily seized upon the opportunity to change boundaries and landmarks. In the ancient culture, the lowest class of crime was that of tampering with landmarks.
The princes of Judah have become landmark removers not by hostile invasion of Israel but by removing the boundaries of right which had been determined by God. God had to use Hosea to prophesy his wrath to come upon such land grabbers, such landmark removers.
This morning, I would like to share a sermon entitled: “LANDMARK REMOVERS”.
(I) WHAT IS A LANDMARK?
According to secular dictionary, a landmark is defined as:
• A prominent or conspicuous object on land that serves as a guide, especially to ships at sea or to travelers on a road.
• Something used to mark the boundary of land
The Biblical definition for LANDMARK is best derived from the Amplified version: THE BARRIER BETWEEN RIGHT AND WRONG.
Hosea 5:10 (Amp)- “The princes of Judah are like those who remove the landmark [the barrier between right and wrong]; I will pour out My wrath upon them like water.”
The word “LANDMARK” in Hosea 5:10 has a cross reference to Proverbs 22:28 (NKJV) which says, “Do not remove the ancient landmark which your fathers have set.”
So the landmark of Hosea 5:10 is synonymously known as THE ANCIENT LANDMARK.
Ancient landmarks are defined as “rights which had been determined by God.” They are the “ancient paths” mentioned in Jeremiah 6:16, paths that are OLD AND RELIABLE. In the language of 2 Thessalonians 2:13-15 (NKJV), they are the “TRADITIONS WHICH YOU WERE TAUGHT, WHETHER BY WORD OR OUR EPISTLE”
(II) THE IMPORTANCE OF LANDMARKS
Landmarks are important during the Bible times.
Why are ancient landmarks important?
1. LANDMARKS DEPICT OWNERSHIP
The Jews during Hosea’s time were not mercantile nor a manufacturing people but a nation of agriculturists. Each citizen had his own piece of ground allotted to him as the family inheritance and great pains were taken that his descendants should be secured in it forever. A man might pledge his portion until the year of jubilee, but it was not lawful absolutely to sell it (Numbers 36:7). Hence the sacredness of landmarks, as a means of preserving accurately the boundaries of family possessions. One of the curses spoken from Mt Ebal was directed against the man who should remove them (Deuteronomy 27:17). Elijah pronounced doom upon Ahab, not for the murder of Naboth alone, but also for ‘REMOVING THE BOUND” of his vineyard (1 Kings 21:19).
So in ancient time, the ancient landmark or “boundary stone” depicts the boundary of the land that you own. Proverbs 22:28 (NLT), “Do not steal your neighbor’s property by moving the ancient boundary markers set up by your ancestors.” Every time landmarks are shifted or removed, it causes confusion, contention and even chaos because neighbors will start fighting over boundaries.
There are landmarks that God has placed within believers that denote that God is the King and Owner and we are His people. It also shows us our RIGHTS AS CHILDREN OF GOD and that we can evict the enemy if he infringes our boundary.
2. LANDMARKS DEPICT DIRECTION
When we tell someone how to get to a place, we usually describe the prominent landmarks that surround the place. It is these prominent landmarks that give people direction.
Similarly, the ancient landmarks given to us through the Bible shows us whether we are close to God or heading in the right direction. They give us our spiritual bearings, and point people toward God.
3. LANDMARKS DEPICT EXPERIENCES
The Bible tells us that wherever the forefathers of the nation of Israel encountered God, they would set up an altar to the Lord. These altars were landmarks that depicted the occasions and places where they had a personal encounter with God.
When God provided a ram in place of Isaac, Abraham built an ALTAR unto the Lord and called the place, “The Lord will provide” (Genesis 22:14). The site of Israel’s victorious crossing of the Jordan River was also marked with stones to serve as a reminder to the generations to come: “That this may be a sign among you, when you children ask in time to come, saying, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’” (Joshua 4:6 NKJV).
(III) WHAT ARE THE ANCIENT LANDMARKS?
Many believers today have slowly eradicated time for prayer. In the busyness of our lives, we respond logically and believe that if we spend less time in prayer, we will have more time for other things. But that is exactly what cripples a Christian! Ironically, if you have no time, then you need to have more time in His presence.
PRAYER IS THE LIFELINE OF EVERY BELIEVER. Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV) – “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” God is waiting for us to call upon Him. In James 4:2 (NKJV), it says, “We have not, because we ask not.” If we eradicate prayer from our lives, and become prayer-less believers, we will become a weak Christian. And when things happen, we will become a headless chicken, running all over the place.
Ever since America removed public prayer from schools, the wrath of God literally fell upon the nation. Shootings at school have become a “routine” and a “grim familiarity for USA”, the recent being on 1 October 2015 at an Oregon college, where 10 people were killed and 7 more injured. This is the 45th school shooting this year and Obama’s 15th statement on shooting since taking office. He “spoke of the country being numbed by the repeated massacres.”
2. THE WORD OF GOD
The Word of God is God’s revelation to every believer. The Word of God is given to believers because IT REVEALS GOD’S CHARACTER AND PERSONALITY. The more we read the Word of God, the more we will begin to understand who we are in God. The Word of God also REVEALS GOD’S WORK. It reveals how powerful He is. Scripture records for us how He delivered Israel and has intervened in human history. His past record is an indication of what He will do for us in the present and the future. The word of God is the BEDROCK OF OUR FAITH. If we do not know and study the Word of God, we will not have a standard to adhere to and we will be unable to make sound judgment on what is truly of God and what is not. The word of God also STRENGTHENS OUR FAITH IN CHRIST. “Faith comes from what is heard and what is heard comes by the preaching of Christ” (Romans 10:17).
The word of God REVEALS GOD’S DIRECTION. Psalm 119:105 tells us that His Word is a light to our paths. This means that Scripture reveals His will and purposes for us. But instead of looking to His word for revelation, we substitute it with things like worship songs and seek prophecies from prophetic ministries.
Many modern churches today have ousted the Word of God from the pulpit. They have praise and worship service that lasts for one hour but the preaching of the word of God lasts for only 15 minutes. We have someone whom one of our Zone Pastors (ZP) has helped. She was barren for many years and one day on the street, she met our ZP. Our ZP received a prophetic download to pray for her barren womb. She conceived a few months later and instead of coming back to this church to serve, she confiscated this blessing from us and transferred herself to another church. Her reason – that church has long hours of praise and worship service and short preaching whereas Evangel Tabernacle has long preaching of the Word of God. Remember, John 1:1 declares – “In the beginning was the Word…” and not worship or praises.
There is nothing wrong with worship songs or prophetic words but if you rely solely on these things and do not study the Word of God, you will not have His revelation of His character, works and direction in your life. Without revelation, we are directionless.
Finally the Word of God is OUR SPIRITUAL FOOD. If we do not feed the Holy Spirit inside of us, we will become weak. Our human nature constantly fights with our spiritual nature and when we are weak, we will not have a strong Christian conviction and will fall into temptation easily. “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).
3. FAMILY AND MARRIAGE
We derive the biblical theology of the family unit from Adam and Eve- a man and a woman united together as one flesh and blessed by God to procreate and multiply and fill the earth (Genesis 1:28). God did not make mistakes when He created man and woman. He created man and woman to form a family unit and this is an ancient landmark that should not be removed.
When we remove these ancient landmarks, there will be chaos. The Bible clearly states that the family unit should be made up of a man and a woman. They are to be biologically distinct and complementing each other.
It is upon the institution of marriage that God ensures PROTECTION, PROCREATION AND PLEASURE. Firstly, marriage protects us by placing man and woman into a marriage bond. When we allow other people or things into marriage bed, we will have dysfunction and chaos. It could be as simple as sharing things that we should share only with our spouse with someone at work, we begin to allow our marriage bed to be infiltrated. And we are eradicating and stepping out of God’s protection.
Some of the diseases we have today have become rampant due to loose morals where men and women sleep around with Tom, Dick and Harry. Even animals!!! AIDS is not a curse from God; it is the consequence of humanity removing the ancient landmark set by God and moving out of God’s PROTECTION.
Secondly, marriage is how God ensures PROCREATION. God’s original intention was for one male and one female to unite in marriage and procreate – “to be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it” (Genesis 1:28 NKJV). But through adulterous liaisons and abuse of fertility treatments, people are having children apart from the family unit of a husband and wife and by doing so they move outside of God’s design for marriage.
Thirdly, marriage is where God instills PLEASURE between a husband and wife. This is more than the physical and emotional pleasure of intimacy; it is the spiritual significance of marriage. The love of a husband for his wife is an expression of God’s love for His Church. The husband according to Ephesian 5:21-31 is to sacrifice himself for his wife just as Christ had sacrificed himself for the Church. Through this fruitful and biblical relationship of love and sacrifice within a family, pleasure is seen and through this, the world can see Christ through the Church.
The family is the FOUNDATION OF SOCIETY. If there is no family, there is no posterity and the world will come to an end.
In October last month, China announced that it will end its one-child policy after 35 years and allow couples to have two children. The 35 years of one-child policy has prevented 400 million births, thus contributing to China’s dramatic economic takeoff since the 1980s but the human toll has been immense, with forced sterilization, infanticide and sex-selective abortion that have caused a dramatic gender imbalance that means millions of men will never find female partners –about 20-30 million young men who are not going to be able to find a wife.”
4. THE COMMUNITY OF GOD
There are many believers today that feel the community of God is extra commitment and optional. They live outside the community and say, “Just give me my dose of worship and sermons and leave me be.”
George-Eldan Ladd in his book, “The Kingdom of God”, explains that a community exists because there is One who has called them into a community. Like a king and his subjects in a kingdom, a community pre-supposes there is a God, for without subjects there can be no king. “In a multitude of people is the glory of a king, but without a people a prince is ruined” (Proverbs 14:28).
• Being in the community of God means no one is left behind.
It is sad when people make a decision for God and there is no follow-up.
• Being in the community of God means we serve together
In the book of Acts we see that whenever there was a need, the church came together, shared what they had and served each other so that no one would be in need.
• Being in the community of God means we have covenantal relationship with each other
As believers, we are born into the kingdom of God; we are family. It is in this covenantal relationship that we have an agreement to love, support, encourage and walk with each other –to correct and to rebuke; to nurture and disciple. It is therefore essential that you connect with a small group in this church.
Due to the pervasive of the hyper-grace movement, the holiness of God has been compromised and people can’t see God anymore.
One of the most disturbing elements of the hyper-grace movement is the way it judges and vilifies those outside of its camp. If you haven’t received the revelation of the new grace reformation, you are called a Pharisee, a legalist and a law keeper; you are “under-works” you are in bondage and worse. One woman testified: “I have seen firsthand the changes that come with people who embrace hyper-grace message. I joined a small group 3 years ago that went from having regular prayer meeting and living holy connected lives together to stating “prayer is a work and denies grace” and “sin allows grace to do its great work.” All of our prayer meetings and Bible studies were traded in for game-nights and nights out at the bar to “witness” where many from the group got drunk…all in the name of “grace.” My heart has been so broken for my dear friends who I walked so closely with. As a group, they have embraced sin as not only acceptable but justified and desirable. I have been completely ostracized and mocked for my stand in holiness. They don’t even call me by my name anymore – they call me “Pharisee.” Unfortunately, I have had to step completely away from these loved ones and am spending my life in prayer for them.”
“Strive for peace with all men and FOR THE HOLINESS WITHOUT WHICH NO ONE WILL SEE THE LORD” (Hebrews 12:14). If you remove the landmark of holiness from the church, no one can see Jesus.
(IV) LANDMARK REMOVERS
The princes of Judah in Hosea 5 were guilty of still deeper sin than the removal of boundary stones. They had removed the MORAL AND RELIGIOUS BARRIERS. And this form of evil is a crying one in the world still.
1. SOME ‘REMOVE THE BOUND’ OF THE INSPIRED WORD.
Revelation 22:18-19- I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if any one ADDS to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if any one TAKES AWAY from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.”
The Jews committed this sin in relation to the Old Testament by exalting the traditional law, as written in the Talmud, more than the “commandment of God” itself (Matthew 15:6). The Church of Rome errs in the same way, by giving the Apocrypha a place alongside the 66 canons of the Bible and by insisting upon apostolically and ecclesiastical tradition as the complement of scripture. There are also some Protestants who “remove the bound” by denying the FULL inspiration of the Bible and adopt the theory of PARTIAL inspiration in any of its form.
In September 22, 1982, Readers’ Digest published a condensed version of the world’s most wide-read book – the Bible. None of Jesus’ words were changed but about 10 percent were deleted. Some of the Bible’s 66 books were substantially reduced, including Exodus.
2. SOME ‘REMOVE THE BOUND’ BETWEEN CHURCH AND STATE.
Both of these are DIVINE institutions – the one spiritual in nature and the other secular. The spheres of the two are distinct and each within its own sphere is independent of the other.
In one country, the Church invades the domain of the State, directing and controlling it, namely the Vatican.
In another country, the State encroaches upon the domain of the Church and exercises rule in sacred thing. This is called Erastinism of which Constantine is a clear example. From the Bible we have an example of a monarch usurping the role of the priest by entering the Holy Place to offer incense to the Lord and consequently God struck him with leprosy. His name is Uzziah (2 Chronicles 26:18-19).
Recently certain leaders of the church approached me with the proposal of the barangay Captain of Tabuc Suba to borrow our sanctuary for a combined annual meeting for all their barangay officials. I can sense that these leaders wanted me to say “yes” as they thought that by bonding with the political officials, it will expedite our request to use the barangay facility better in the future for Community Penetration. But my conviction is – I don’t mix politics with the church, much more so using the holy sanctuary for political meeting. I turned them down flat. End of discussion.
3. SOME ‘REMOVE THE BOUND’ AS REGARDS PURITY OF WORSHIP
The princes of Judah had shifted the landmarks between the worship of Jehovah and idolatry. And this offense is committed still by all who introduce methods and modes of worship which are not in accordance with the Word of God.
An elaborate sensuous ceremonial and any form of service which assumes that ministers belong to a distinct sacerdotal (priestly) order, are a removing of the bound.
The secularization of the Sabbath, the Lord’s Day – those who teach that now every day is alike sacred –is undermining one of the foundations of morality. It is at our peril if we remove the boundary-stones which separate the Lord’s Day from the other days of the week.
Ahaz copied the altar of the Assyrians, brought the design back to Jerusalem and replaced the one used in the Temple of Jerusalem. He also removed a few fixtures of the temple of Jerusalem namely the brazen altar and the laver.
Many of the modern churches have done away with the need for believers to go through the blood of Jesus (represented by the brazen altar). In their modern sermons, they no more stress on the need for cleansing of our sins (represented by the removal of the laver). Any Tom, Dick and Harry can come and be close to God without any stress on repentance, acknowledgement that we are sinners and confession of our sins. This is one example of removing the bounds as regard to purity of worship.
4. SOME ‘REMOVE THE BOUND’ BETWEEN SCIENCE AND RELIGION
The domain of physical science is one department of truth while that of religion is another. Scientific questions like evolution, existence of dinosaurs, life in other planets in the form of aliens, are to be settled on scientific grounds and by men who have had a scientific training. The theologian on the other hand, must keep within his frontier, and resolutely defend those moral facts and religious truths like the reality of moral freedom, the supremacy of conscience, the intuition of immortality, and those deep experiences of guilt and soul-hunger to which only the gospel of Christ can respond. A curse shall fall upon those who remove these landmarks.
5. SOME ‘REMOVE THE BOUND’ OF EVANGELICAL DOCTRINE
The evangelical doctrine is the apostolic doctrine that is distinct from ‘ANOTHER’ gospel.
In Galatians 1:8, Paul already warns us, “But even if we, or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we preached to you, let him be accursed.”
2 Timothy 4:3-4 (Amp)- “For the time is coming when [people] will not tolerate (endure) sound and wholesome instruction, but having ears itching [for something pleasing and gratifying], they will gather to themselves one teacher after another to a considerable number, chosen to satisfy their own liking and to foster the errors they hold, and will turn aside from hearing the truth and wander off into myths and man-made fictions.
Today, many gospels from the modern pulpits are not the same gospel messages Jesus and the apostles preached. Today’s pulpit message is either “one size fits all” messages, gospel-lite messages, with no mention of repentance, fear of God and sin; over-emphasis on one facet of the gospel truths like faith, love, grace, healing, giving, mission or prosperity.
We cannot remove the boundary of the evangelical messages that carries these 12 tenets of faith:
• Jesus Christ is the only way to eternal salvation with God the Father
• We are saved by grace through faith – not by works
• Jesus Christ is the Son of God
• The incarnation of Jesus Christ.
• The Bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grace
• The ascension of Jesus Christ
• The doctrine of the trinity.
• The Holy Bible is the Inspired and infallible Word of God.
• We are baptized with the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation.
• Regeneration by the Holy Spirit
• The Doctrine of hell
• The second coming of Jesus Christ back to earth
The scripture which is the sound and wholesome truths of God should be used “for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16).”
6. SOME ‘REMOVE THE BOUND’ AS REGARDS NONCONFORMITY TO THE WORLD
The devil tries to obliterate as much as possible all distinct boundary lines between the Church and the world. He tempts ministers always to preach ‘SMOOTH THINGS.” He tempts the pastors of the church to neglect the administration of DISCIPLINE. He tempts the members of the congregation to absorb the SPIRIT OF THE WORLD and try to serve both God and mammon. The Ten Commandments are so many boundary-stones which mark the track of the narrow way, but we often regard the path as too strict and narrow and would love the pastors to remove the stones back a little. We would ask concerning certain worldly pleasures – “What harm is there in drinking, in smoking, in premarital sex, in oral sex, in adultery, in gambling, in tattoos, in secular music?” But we fail to inquire “What good there is?” The churches today have removed the boundary markers as regards to non-conformity to the world. We have become spiritually lax.
A Senior Pastor of a megachurch in Singapore wanted to reach the young people and therefore he proposed this outreach program called the “Crossover”. He took 15 million sing dollars from the building fund of his church and got an American music producer to produce an MTV for his wife (who is also a pastor of the mega church) to perform in. This project failed and the pastors and the board got investigated by the Singapore government for the misuse of church funds. If you were to view this MTV, you would be shocked to know that the main dancer who was scantily clad, dancing to sensual and secular beat of the music is a pastor and a pastor’s wife and in the clip she is aka as “geisha” (implication of a Japanese prostitute). Can you see how much the boundary marker has been removed by these modern pastors?
Do you want Evangel Tabernacle to remove the landmark of non-conformity to the world?
(5) CONSEQUENCES OF LANDMARK REMOVERS
Today, if like the princes of Judah, we remove the ancient landmarks set by God for our church and for lives, then Hosea 5:10 declares that “GOD WILL POUR OUT HIS WRATH ON US LIKE WATERS.” In this short chapter, INVADERS, WATER, MOTH, ROTTENNESS, SICKNESS, WOUNDS AND FEROCIOUS WILD BEASTS (LIONS) are among the figures employed here to represent the wrath of God upon landmark removers.
God is beckoning all the churches to stick to the ancient path which is the ancient landmark which will lead to blessings and rest for our souls. Jeremiah 6:16 (NET) -“The LORD said to his people: “You are standing at the crossroads. So consider your path. Ask where the old, reliable paths. Ask where the path is that leads to BLESSING and follow it. If you do, you will find REST FOR YOUR SOULS.” But they said, “We will not follow it.””
God showed me that if the churches do not follow the ancient paths and keep removing all the ancient landmarks in the church:-
1. The world and the churches will witness the DISASTERS that will overtake the churches.
“So the LORD said, “Hear, you nations! Be witnesses and take note of what will happen to these people. Hear this, you people of the earth: ‘Take note! I am about to bring DISASTER on these people. It will come as punishment for their SCHEMING. For they have paid no attention to what I have said, and they have rejected my law.”
The latest indictment by the Singapore government of this mega church pastor is the DISASTER that God brought to that church. The pastor and his board schemed about 50 million Singapore dollars from their building to finance the CROSSOVER project which failed and in order to cover up all the losses, they created scam bonds. This scandal was broadcast all over the news [including CNN and BBC] for all to see.
2. God will reject their worship
“I take no delight when they offer up to me frankincense that comes from Sheba or sweet-smelling cane imported from a faraway land. I cannot accept the burnt offerings they bring me. I get no pleasure from the sacrifices they offer to me.”
Many modern churches today are riding on the popular fad of imported concert music style in their church worship services today. They thought that if they can pattern their worship style after international song groups like Hillsong and Planetshakers or even popular secular rock or pop group, God will be pleased with their worship and sacrifices. Today, Jeremiah is very clear that even if you use imported instrument [like top-class imported Frankincense from Sheba] or sweet melody and songs imported from faraway places like Australia or USA [sweet canes from faraway places] GOD CANNOT ACCEPT THE BURNT OFFERING THEY BRING AND GOD GET NO PLEASURE FROM THE SACRIFICES THEY OFFER TO HIM if you are a “landmark remover”.
Many of us are Hillsong cults today. But look at what happened today at Hillsong NYC, where through a program called SURVIVORS, one of the contestants revealed that he is a member and a music director of Hillsong NYC and he is already engaged to his male lover (who also is a Hillsong NYC member and have sung in the Hillsong choir several times). That sent a great uproar in the mainline denominations to the point the Founder of Hillsong, Brian Houston had to give a public statement that they didn’t know that this couple is gay and Hillsong is still a traditional church upholding marriage and is anti LGBT though he was quick to add that Hillsong churches are not against gays as individual but they are not for their lifestyle and it is the stand of church not to put any gay as leaders in the church. But the dent is already made. The senior pastor of my daughter, Jan, who is Lyon, France publicly denounced Hillsong and forbade his church to sing Hillsong in the worship service. Do you want this to happen to our church?
3. These landmark removers will stumble many people
“So, this is what the LORD says, “I will assuredly make these people stumble to their doom. Parents and children will stumble and fall to their destruction. Friends and neighbors will die” (Jeremiah 6:21)
The compromise of the mega church pastor in Singapore has stumbled many people, believers and unbelievers alike.
A Singapore pastor commented, “The modern pastor caught up in the temporal and immediate success of a ministry divorced from the ‘ancient paths’ of the church will only do this to the detriment of his flock and eventually, the city.”
4. God will send a cruel and mighty enemy to attack them.
“This is what the LORD says, ‘Beware! An army is coming from a land in the north. A mighty nation is stirring into action in faraway parts of the earth. Its soldiers are armed with bows and spears. They are cruel and show no mercy….lined up in formation like men going into battle to attack you, Daughter Zion.” (Jeremiah 6:22-23)
Literally, the Spore government like the army from the north, sent its prosecutors armed with “bows and spears” to attack the senior pastor and some of his board members of this mega church. The prosecutors and the judge showed no mercy and they were cruel to these “land removers”. The government lined up in legal formation and entered into a 3 year legal battle to attack these ‘landmark removers’. Just only last month the battle ended with the verdict –GUILTY AS CHARGED and the senior pastor was sentenced to 8 years jail.
I am not trying to be judgmental here. When the news of the verdict for this mega church pastor was out, I felt very sad for him because I know his heart to cross over to the Y generation of our country is sincere. I always admire this couple for their ability to reach the thousands of youth which many Singapore churches fail to. But his method is wrong. He removed the ancient landmark set by God.
Young people – be very careful with the music you are using to reach the unsaved youths. Be very careful with the dance move and the dance routines you are using to reach out to the youth today.
Don’t incur on the wrath of God!
THE ANCIENT OF DAYS
Jeremiah 6:16 (NET) -“The LORD said to his people: “You are standing at the crossroads. So consider your path. Ask where the old, reliable paths. Ask where the path is that leads to blessing and follow it. If you do, you will find rest for your souls.” But they said, “We will not follow it.””
There is one Ancient of Days who has an ancient landmark that will point you the way to God the Father. He is Jesus, the Ancient of Days and the ancient landmark that is still lifted high for all to see is THE OLD RUGGED CROSS.
Yes. The old ancient path is still the Jesus and the Cross. “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but by me” (John 14:6). “And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself” (John 12:32 NIV).
A landmark depicts direction. The best landmark directing sinners to their Creator is JESUS AND THE CROSS. Lift up this Ancient of Days. Lift up this OLD RUGGED CROSS. Preach the full message of the cross. Don’t remove the bounds in any of the messages. Jesus and the cross are tested old and reliable paths – the ancient paths, set by God the Father, that when we follow it, will lead us to BLESSINGS and REST FOR OUR SOULS.
Also, today, if any of us has been guilty of being a landmark remover, remember that Jesus has come and fulfilled every of the Ten Commandments – the ancient landmark set by God the Father so that His perfect obedience to all these ancient landmarks can atone for all our failures to do so.
We are truly living in the crossroads of being relevant in this 21st high tech century and our Christian traditions. We all need to consider our paths and ask where the ancient paths are and walk in it. We must not incur the wrath of God by removing the various landmarks God has already set for us in church and for our lives. “Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few” (Matthew 7:13-14).
Stop asking us as your pastors to remove the boundary stones so that it can be easier for you to be a Christian. Jesus chose the narrow path of the cross of death and so must you. There is no easy formula to eternal life and blessing. Jesus – The Ancient of Day paid a very painful and tough price for it – his life! There is no easy road to Christian service for it must involve sacrifice.
Put back all the boundary stones to our church and to our lives today!
“Don’t be flip with the sacred. Banter and silliness give no honor to God. Don’t reduce holy mysteries to slogans. In trying to be relevant, you’re only being cute and inviting sacrilege [blasphemy, irreverence]” (Matthew 7:6 Message).
“Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle” (2 Thessalonians 2:13-15).
